Thallus to 5 cm wide, foliose, forming loose irregular patches. Lobes to 12 mm wide, ascending at margins, brittle when dry. Upper surface dull to slightly shining, grey-green to yellow-green. Lower surface sometimes indistinctly pitted, dirty white to pale grey; rhizines mainly marginal, scattered, fasciculate, black. Apothecia to 3 mm wide, terminal on marginal lobes, hemispheric, rugulose, reddish brown; exciple not prominent; hypothecium hyaline; hymenium including pale brown epithecium to 45 µm tall; paraphyses simple, to 1.5 µm wide. Ascospores 12–15 × 4 µm. Pycnidia to 160 µm wide. Conidia 6 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus KC+ yellow; medulla K-, C-, CK+ rose, P-; hymenium I+ intense blue; asci I+ blue. Usnic acid present in cortex; divaricatic and condivaricatic acids present in medulla. | ||
Occurs in all States and Territories of mainland Australia, but not Tas. It is mostly found growing on soil but occasionally can be found growing amongst litter on the forest floor. | ||
